| Description | Cortisol is the most potent glucocorticoid produced and secreted by the adrenal cortex. The release of cortisol is controlled by ACTH, which is produced in the anterior pituitary. Cortisol has numerous physiological and pharmacological actions, such as carbohydrate metabolism, renal function and anti-inflammatory effect. Plasma cortisol levels are useful in diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, adrenal tumors and other conditions related to the functions of the adrenal cortex. Principle of the Assay: This is an ELISA for the quantitative analysis of Cortisol levels in biological fluid. This test kit operates on the basis of competition between the enzyme conjugate and the Cortisol in the sample for a limited number of binding sites on the antibody coated plate.
