| Description | Purity ~90% (SDS-PAGE). Peroxiredoxin-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PRDX2 gene. This gene encodes a member of the peroxiredoxin family of antioxidant enzymes, which reduce hydrogen peroxide and alkyl hydroperoxides. The encoded protein may play an antioxidant protective role in cells, and may contribute to the antiviral activity of CD8 (+) T-cells. It may also have a proliferative effect and play a role in cancer development or progression. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa1-198 from human PRDX2, expressed in E. coli. Molecular Weight: ~21.8kD (198aa, aa1-198) Biological Activity: Specific activity: ~200-230pmole/min/ug. Enzymatic activity was confirmed by measuring the remaining peroxide after incubation of PRDX2 and peroxide for 20min at RT. Specific activity is defined as the amount of hydroperoxide that 1ug of enzyme can reduce at 25°C for 1 minute.
