Control Peptide for E2291-52 (antiserum) and E2291-53 (affinity purified) A 17 amino acid peptide sequence near the amino terminus of human ERAB was used to generate anti-ERAB. The peptide was coupled with KLH. An intracellular protein termed ERAB ( Endoplasmic reticulum associated Ab binding protein on chromosome X) has been cloned and linked with Ab neurotoxicity (1). ERAB has structural homology with short-chain alcohol dehydrogenases (hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases and acetyl-CoA reductases). Interestingly, ERAB localizes to endoplasmic reticulum despite the absence of a classical transmembrane sequence. However, in the presence of Ab, ERAB- Ab complex translates to the inner plasma membrane. Alzheimer patients have strong ERAB activity. Normal brains have virtually no ERAB.
