| Description | Highly selective medium for recovery of clostridia from clinical and other sources. Clostrisel Agar was first described by Vera for the isolation of pathogenic Clostridia from mixed flora specimens (wounds, soil, feces and other contaminated material). The nutrient base for this formulation is Tryptic Soy Broth with the addition of reducing agents sodium thioglycollate and sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate which provide a low oxidation-reduction potential necessary for the growth of obligate anaerobes. Inhibition of Bacillus, Enteric bacteria, Pseudomonas, Proteus and most Gram positive organisms (except Enterococcus) is achieved by the addition of neomycin and sodium azide. |
