| Description | Purified by ion-exchange and gel-filtration chromatography (~98%, SDS-PAGE). Myoglobin is a cytoplasmic, single chain polypeptide of 153aa. It contains a single heme group. Myoglobin is found in skeletal and cardiac muscle. It is not in smooth muscle. it functions as an oxygen transporting pigment. Upon damage to the muscle cell due to infarction of a coronary artery, neurological trauma, infection of tumor processes, myoglobin escapes to the environment and can be found in plasma using sensitive assays. Immunological Activity: Confirmed by reaction with monoclonal antibody that is specific for human myoglobin. Applications: Suitable for use as a reference or standard in immunoassay, immunogen for antisera production, labeling. |
