| Description | Purity >95%. Heptadecanoic acid is a saturated fatty acid (SFA) that contains seventeen carbons (C17:0). Odd-chain SFAs, including heptadecanoic acid and pentadecanoic acid , are abundant in dairy milk and certain seeds and fish. They may also be generated in humans by Alpha-oxidation of even-chain SFAs. Odd-chain SFAs have been used as internal standards in mass spectrometric methods for total FAs and, more recently, as biological markers for intake of milk fat SFAs. Elevated levels of circulating odd-chain SFAs have been correlated with various metabolic disorders, including diabetes and obesity. |
