Product Name | LALF, Peptide |
Description | The name of "Limulus" is derived from a scientific name of the horseshoe crab; Limulus polyphemus. Four species of horseshoe crabs exist in limited regions of the world. The hemolymph amebocyte is the circulating blood cell of the horseshoe crab. Levin and Bang found out that endotoxin (LPS) induces coagulation of the lysate of hemolymph caused by an anti-LPS factor. Limulus anti-LPS factor (LALF) is a naturally occurring horseshoe crab derived protein that is both bactericidal for gram-negative bacteria and capable of neutralizing LPS. The cyclic LALF-peptide, amino acids 31-52, binds lipid A and neutralizes LPS in vivo and in vitro. |
