| Description | The United States Biological Chorionic Gonadotropin, Visual, Human, BioAssay™ ELISA Kit is for the qualitative determination of hCG in human serum or urine. Chorionic Gonadotropint is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization. In normal pregnancy, hCG can be detected in serum as early as 7 days following conception, doubling every 1.3 to 2 days. At the time of the first missed menstrual period, serum hCG concentration is about 100 mIU/ml, and peak levels of 100,000~200,000 mIU/ml are seen at the end of the first trimester. The appearance of hCG soon after conception and its subsequent rise in concentration during early gestational growth make it an excellent marker for the early detection of pregnancy.
