Description | Rabbit Anti-Human NT5C2 polyclonal antibody for WB, IHC. Cytosolic purine 5-nucleotidase (EC 3.1.3.5; UniProt P49902; also known as 5-nucleotidase (purine), cytosolic type B, Cytosolic 5-nucleotidase II, IMP-specific 5-NT, Purine 5 nucleotidase) is encoded by the NT5C2 (also known as cN-II, GMP, NT5B, NT5CP, PNT5, SPG45, SPG65) gene (Entrez Gene ID 22978) in human. NT5C2 protein is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of inosine 5-monophosphate (IMP) and other purine nucleotides into the corresponding ribonucleoside and a phosphate. Purine nucleotides are neuroprotective and play a critical role in the ischemic and developing brain, alterations in purine nucleotides levels could sensitize neurons to stress and insult. Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are neurodegenerative motor neuron diseases characterized by progressive age-dependent loss of corticospinal motor tract function. Mutations in NT5C2 and several other genes coding for purine nucleotide metabolizing enzymes are linked to autosomal recessive HSP (AR-HSP) in a study of 55 families displaying AR-HSP. |
