| Description | Brain Heart Infusion Broth is used for the cultivation fastidious microorganisms, including streptococci, pneumococci and meningococci from a variety of clinical and non-clinical materials. Description: Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) Broth is a modification of the media described by Rosenow and Hayden in which infusion from calf brains has replaced the brain tissue and disodium phosphate has replaced the calcium carbonate buffer. The addition of 0.1% agar can be used to lower oxygen tension to enhance the growth of anaerobic organisms.
