| Product Name | Phleomycin, Streptomyces verticillus |
| Description | Purity ≥90%. This unique antibiotic shows high toxicity in mammalian cells, plants, yeasts and bacteria. Ocin acts by binding to DNA and cleaving it causing cell death. Ocin is a copper-chelated glycopeptide antibiotic isolated from culture broth of a Streptomyces verticullus mutant and is part of the structurally related group of Bleomycin/Phleomycin type antibiotics. The product of Sh ble, (Streptoalloteichus hindustanus bleomycin-resistance) gene confers resistance to Zeocin and Zeocell. The 14kD protein stoichiometrically binds to Zeocin and inhibits DNA strand cleavage and subsequent cell death. Produced by a Streptomyces verticullus mutant and is part of the structurally related group of Bleomycin/Phleomycin type antibiotics. Used as a selective agent for the incorporation of the Sh ble gene which encodes a 13,665 Dalton protein. The protein binds to the antibiotic and prevents binding to DNA. Phleomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic of the bleomycin family, isolated from a mutant |
