| Product Name | Mycophil (Mycological) Agar |
| Description | Mycophil (Mycological) Agar is a solid medium recommended for use in qualitative procedures for the cultivation and maintenance of fungi. Carlier developed a medium for the cultivation of fungi prepared from peptone, glucose, and agar.1 Previous formulations of fungal media had an acidic pH for the purpose of inhibiting bacterial growth. In 1958, Huppert and Walker demonstrated media with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH provided for early and luxuriant growth of fungi.2,3 Mycophil Agar has also been recommended for isolation of yeasts and most filamentous fungi from clinical material.4 Soy peptone provides nitrogen, amino acids, and peptides necessary for the growth of fungi. Dextrose is a source of energy. Agar is the solidifying agent. |
